Review & DISCOUNT: Kids Science Labs

September 29, 2011

Confession time--I've never been that into science. I was always one of those kids who sat in the back of the science classroom muttering "when am I ever going to use this?"

But after yesterday's visit to the newly opened Kids Science Labs, I realize science is way more fun and useful than I ever gave it credit for!

Located at 1500 North Kingsbury Street, this interactive hands-on learning center offers science classes for 2 - 12 year olds in a fun, colorful space.  My son and I tried out the toddler class yesterday morning and had a ball!  From the moment we walked in my little guy was intrigued.  He immediately headed to the play space and checked out all of the great hands-on toys.

Once it was time for our class to start we entered a classroom with a functioning garage door (cool!) and walls you can write on (cooler!)  Yesterday's toddler class focused on colors and we learned all about red, blue and yellow and how they are the basis for other colors. (Red and blue make purple, blue and yellow make green and so on.) We did mini-experiments where we observed the colors blending and making other colors and then came my son's favorite part.

The edible paint! (Vanilla pudding with blue, yellow or red food coloring in it.)  The students were told to finger paint and see what happened when the colors were combined.  My little guy really enjoyed the painting, especially when he discovered how yummy the paint was!

How cute is that little lab coat?!?!

After our class, one of the founders Shegan Campbell was kind enough to give us a tour and tell us a little more about the center.  Again, I never realized science was so much fun!

With classes focusing on everything from making castles and catapults to Fruit Smashanomics (They throw fruit. At the wall. On purpose.  LOVE!), there is something for every curious kiddo out there!

Individual classes run from $22 - $43 and Kids Science Labs offers one free trial class to anyone interested in learning more about them.

But you Macaroni families get an even better deal!  Call 312.846.14226 to register and tell them you are a Macaroni Kid Chicago reader and get 15% off your tuition!

So check out Kids Science Labs and show your children how much fun science can be!
