Theatre Review, Discount & GIVEAWAY:Goodnight Moon

December 1, 2011

*GIVEAWAY CLOSED. CONGRATS TO COMMENT #3, IRENE!

As an avid reader, I've always wished I could step into the books I love.  In all my years of reading I've never had that opportunity until a few weeks ago when my son and I were in the audience of Chicago Children's Theatre's Goodnight Moon.

From the moment the curtain opened, I was THERE! In the great green room!  And my son and I were both mesmerized.

As most parents know, Goodnight Moon is a simple, sweet story of a little bunny's bedtime routine.  This musical adaptation expands upon that and shows the audience all of the antics that little bunny will get into trying to NOT go to bed.  The well-known paintings on the wall come to life to provide much amusement and catchy tunes (I especially loved the song sung by the 3 bears with chairs!), the little old lady begs and pleads "HUSH!" to no avail, the young mouse and bunny giggle and play--the beloved book is brought into funny, sweet, musical, energetic, 3D!

All of the actors were impressive, but we especially loved Alex Goodrich who played Bunny.  His energy and innocence were so believable and he embodied the youthful excitement, that joie de vivre that says "NO!" to bedtime!

And the set!  Oh my goodness, the set!  The pages of the book have been blown up and every detail from the toys on the bookshelf to the "bowl full of mush" have been painstakingly recreated.  I could have studied that set for hours!

Do you have a Goodnight Moon fan in your house?  Join Macaroni Kid at the Saturday, Dec. 10, 3PM performance at Victory Gardens Biograph Theatre (2433 N Lincoln).  We'll enjoy the show and then celebrate at a post-show PJ party in the lobby.  We will have yummy snacks, crafts, photos with Shayna Hardy Photography, face painting from *play and a best PJ contest! So bring the kiddies out in their cutest/silliest/funniest pajamas and party with Mac Kid!

Tickets can be purchased online.  For the Dec. 10, 3PM performance use code MOUSE for $5 off your tickets.
