What to do with your kiddos if there's no school!

STRIKE CAMP AT ABC Dance Academy, 4200 N. Central Ave., (773) 777-8484. Mon - Fri, 9am-3PM. Grades 1-5. Bring home lunch, water bottles provided. $50 per day, $225 for 5 days, $10% for siblings. ARCC Ballet Dance Camps for ages 4-15 (camp will be offered throughout the duration of the strike). Daily from 8:00am-3:00pm. 2 options: $60.00 per child/All day, 8am - 3pm. $35 per child/Half day (8am-12:30pm or 11:00am-3pm). 5% sibling discount. Spots are limited so reserve your spot. Camps will include creative movement, dancing, arts & craft, reading time, games and much more! Children must bring a packed lunch, favorite book to read or school textbooks, ballet shoes (if they have any). EMAIL [email protected] TO REGISTER AFTER HOURS.

Beauty and Brawn Gallery is offering strike camp for $35.00 per child with a 10% sibling discount per day. Camp goes from 9:30-12:30 each day, and includes music, dance, visual art and much, much more- maybe even kiddie yoga! Parents can drop in. There is a max of 20 students per day. To support Chicago Public School families this week, Chicago Children’s Museum is offering free admission to all CPS students, Sept. 10-14. This limited-time offer will assist parents and caregivers with an opportunity to engage their children in an environment of play and activity while classes are suspended. Chicago Children’s Museum is open daily from 10 am-5 pm, and Thursday evenings from 5-8 pm. Adults are required to attend CCM with their children, and will pay the General Admission fee. Children under 16 must be supervised by an adult at all times, with a maximum of five children per adult. Groups of 15 or more individuals must pre-register at (312) 464-8249. Group capacity is limited.
 
Chicago Public Schools plan includes providing breakfast and lunch, a safe environment, and positive, engaging activities for students at approximately 145 District sites. CPS will partner with City Sister Agencies and Departments, faith organizations, non-profits and other stakeholders to ensure students receive the support they need in the event of a CTU strike.

Color Wheel Studio has extended Open Studio times throughout the day. They have an all day rate for $75 that will go from 9:00 - 4:00 in conjunction with their hourly options.


Easel Art Studio understands that some children may be out of school due to CPS strikes, so they have added an encore week of their fantastic camp!  The kiddos will have a blast and you can rest assured knowing that they are still learning and growing.  Cost is $75 per day or $350 for the whole week.  Please pack a nut free lunch.


Innovations Yoga is available for family and kids yoga classes at your home or business. 

JCC is offering child care programming to support families in our community during the strike in Chicago Public Schools. Child care will be offered at various locations and will remain in effect until school resumes. Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm. Late care available 3:30-6:00pm. Program price will be $50/day, and late care is available for an additional $15/day. Children will be participating in hands-on math and science projects, art, sports, and swimming. Kids Science Labs presents a "Special CPS Strike Camp" designed to enhance your child’s critical thinking skills, academic confidence, and cognitive ability combined with great camp fun for children ages 6-10. Camp will run 9am-3pm Monday-Friday and will be fantastic.   Space is limited to the first 15 children to sign up.  Cost will be $75/day or $325/week. Lookingglass Theatre will be offering day to day drama workshops for kids 5-13. Camp is 9-3 and $65 per day. As of 11:40pm Sunday they still have slots available- please check the website for online registration.

Multilingual Chicago invites you to pack a lunch and drop off your kindergarten through 5th grader at Multilingual Chicago for a fun and enriching week of Spanish Immersion Strike Camp! The engaging Spanish teachers will get them speaking Spanish from the minute they walk through the door. Activities include games, art, traditional dance and music and – weather permitting – trips to Unity Park to enjoy some fresh air. This program is designed for kids of all Spanish levels, from novice to native. Monday September 10-Friday September 14 (hopefully it won’t be necessary to extend to the following week, but they’ll be ready just in case!) Drop-off: as early as 8:30am (class starts at 9am) / Pickup: 4pm. Price: $299 per child (10% sibiling discount – enter code MKSIB at checkout). Daily and half-day options available too! Jump-N-Art Camp at Pump It Up Chicago, 821 W Eastman, Chicago, IL 60642 (312) 664-7867, Mon - Fri, 9am-3pm, Grades K-6. Bring a lunch. $65 per day, $200 for 4 days. Stretching, play, rock climbing, crafts, and more. Visit their website to register.

Purple Monkey Playroom will be open during the strike. 
Apart from open play they have story time on Fridays at 11:00 a.m. They also have Spanish classes on Wednesday afternoons presented by Little Linguists with a free demo class on Wednesday, September 12 at 3:30 p.m.

Sharp As A Tack’s main mission is to help students improve academic achievement by developing their cognitive abilities and to help them develop important life skills that will lead to a lifetime of successes in the classroom, in the community and within their families.
They will have programming at their location, 4727 N. Clark St. and at The Center on Halsted.  Programming will be from 9-4 with before and after care options. Sky High Sports in Niles and Naperville, a trampoline entertainment center built to deliver a special bouncy brand of affordable family fun and fitness, opens at 11am on Mon and Fri and at 2pm Tue, Wed and Thurs.

Solidarity Camp is a loose association of artists, parents and community members who want to offer an alternative to crossing a picket line during a strike. We will offer a FREE full day of informal, engaging childcare (nature walks, art activities, silent reading, free play) with lunch provided, in Nichols Park with an approximate10:2 ratio.

Source 4 Chicago will offer a week-long multi-disciplinary camp for children in K-6th grades at multiple locations throughout Chicago. Students enrolled in their week-long camp will rotate through four specialized classes throughout each day. Children will have the opportunity to stretch their fine arts muscles in drama and dance with Dream Big Performing Arts Workshop and Design Dance, build cognitive thinking skills through games with Sharp as a Tack as well as develop their language skills in either French or Spanish with Little Linguists Academy. Each day will also include outdoor physical activities. Hours: 9 am-4 pm Monday through Friday. Before and after care are available at an additional cost between the hours of 8-5:30. Location: First Free Church located at 5255 N. Ashland Ave (corner of Berwyn and Ashland Ave in Andersonville). Other locations: TBD Grades: K-6 (Volunteer opportunities are available for 7-12th graders. Please inquire.) Before Care and After Care Options: Before Care 8-9 am: $10/per day After Care 4-5:30 pm: $15/per day

Voice of the City will offer a week-long arts camp for children grades K to 8th in case of a CPS strike at the Hairpin Arts Center, 2800 N Milwaukee Avenue.  Children will engage in visual and theater arts, reading and some physical activities at Unity park.  Parents should pack a lunch, snacks provided. Monday through Friday: September 10 to 14, 2012; 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  (Arts camp will be extended one week at a time, depending on the strike schedule.) Five days for $175.00! Waveland Bowl is offering FREE bowling during the Chicago schools strike.  Every strike affected school kid can come into Waveland Bowl and play 2 games of bowling for FREE (shoe rental not included).  No coupon needed. Valid during normal school days - must complete games by 5PM.  This special offer will remain in effect until the strike is settled. 

Wishcraft Workshop will make the best of it with fun and creative days that keep the kids in Grades K-8 busy, engaged and inspired. They’ll sneak in the math, science and reading when they least expect it. If you anticipate needing a day camp option should there be a CPS strike, you can add your name to their contact list by sending your students’ names and grades to them. They will be offering spots in the order that the names are received and will have part- and full-day options (9am-2pm with drop-off at 8:45am, 2pm-6pm and 9am-6pm.)
