Teachers' Strike Guide Pt. 2
More options for families affected by the CTU strike
The Chicago Park District offers camp-style activities for children in half and full day options from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Space is limited, and parents must register their children at the park sites. Students will participate in camp-type activities such as sports, arts and nature activities. No meals are provided at these sites.
Curiosity Club School-Strike Camp is a unique experience for kids to design their own school. Mondays-Fridays from 9:00-3:00 at the Prop Thtr (3502 N. Elston)This school-strike camp would nurture kids inquisitiveness and encourage them to take initiative for their own learning. $200 per week ($40 per day). Sibling discounts and limited number of scholarships may be available.
Do It Right Baseball is having a CPS Strike Camp at the Creek each day there is a strike. Camp will run 9am-3pm and players will provide their own lunch and snacks. Cost for camp is $50 and early pick up and late drop off options are available for additional cost. CPS Strike Camp at Creek (Ages 7-14yo). 2930 N. Campbell (north side entrance). 773-307-1822. While in the Facets Film Immersion workshop, your child will learn basic critical theory thinking, elements of film grammar and narrative, global culture and history, and the exploration of film classics taught by film scholars. Facets Theater. 8:30am–5:30pm each weekday the strike is in effect. $65.00 per day Payment is due each morning at the box office, or you can enroll your child for the full week.
Keep your student’s body and mind active with Hubbard Street’s Dance Explorers camps during the CPS teachers strike. Young dancers explore the exciting world of contemporary dance through improvisation and structured choreographic activities. Students work with teaching artists of Hubbard Street to create their own unique choreography. Each day will culminate with a short sharing of student work. The Kids' Table is hosting Strike Pizza Parties! Make the most out of these unexpected days off from school and join in a 2-hour pizza parties! In addition to Pizza, kids will make Salad Kabobs and a very seasonal Pear Crisp. Class is from 10am-12pm for kids ages 4-6, and 12:30-2:30pm for ages 7-10. Just $35 per child (10% off for siblings). One Strange Bird will host day art camps 9-4 pm for $60 for each day CPS strikes. All materials included. Just pack a lunch and snacks and they will have some fun. They also have before and aftercare available at $10 an hour, that can be invoice at the end of the week. Call 773 276 4420 for more details and to reserve your spot.
