Fit By Forty: Q & A
By: Jessica Wilson, Body After Baby Chicago
What's a good post-workout snack? Keeping the protein and fat source high is key. You want to teach your body to burn fat for energy instead of carbs and fuel your muscles to help them rebuild with protein. A good example is cheese with nuts (pistachios or almonds); Snack wrap- lunch meat with avocado, cheese, spinach, or any toppings you would like to include.
What types of cardio do you recommend for non-runners? You want to choose an exercise that you enjoy doing and not something you dread. Swimming is a great alternative to running because it is low impact and works your entire body. If you do not have time or access to a pool, going for brisk walks incorporating an incline or stairs during your walk will help elevate your heart rate and keep it challenging. You can also join a group class locally to help you feel more enthused by those participating around you. The important thing to remember, JUST KEEP MOVING & STAY ACTIVE no matter what you choose!
