REVIEW: Knuffle Bunny

Last weekend my family and I headed to the Apollo Theatre for the Emerald City Theatre's production of Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Musical. Based on the Mo Willem's book, this adaptation is energetic, colorful and a lot of fun!

From the theatre's website...

In a world where a trip to the Laundromat threatens to separate Trixie from her beloved bunny, a girl needs a hero to help - Dad. Can Trixie’s parents break the code in time to rescue Knuffle Bunny? This nationally acclaimed musical written by Mo Willems brings a small heroine with big problems to the Emerald City stage.

We had a great time seeing the show and really enjoyed all of the performers.  The musical numbers were catchy and fun and each time one ended and the audience applauded my son would ask in a very concerned voice "Is it over?"  He wanted the show to last a long time! High praise from a short attention spanned 3 year old!

Each cast member brought their character to life really well, but my favorite was Trixie.  Not only is she adorable, but her ballad of love and loss sung only in baby speak (aggle, fraggle, baggle) is HILARIOUS!  Add her amazing voice to the nonsensical words and the juxtaposition of the two had the audience rolling!

I really like that Emerald City Theatre offers both pre-show activities and a parent guide in the show's program so you can continue talking about and learning from the show after you've left the theatre. We've had several Knuffle Bunny conversations this week and my little guy has enjoyed telling people all about his theatre experience!

Knuffle Bunny is running at the Apollo Theatre (2450 N Lincoln Ave.) until January 6.  Don't miss it!

Disclosure: I was given 3 tickets to this performance to facilitate my review but as always all opinions are my own.
