Chicago Children’s Theatre’s 20th Birthday Bash

You're Invited!

By Chicago Childfen's Theatre February 23, 2026

The fun starts with a unique, immersive sensory theater experience for the very young at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., followed by a free birthday bash in the afternoon!

It’s Chicago Children’s Theatre’s 20th birthday, so the city’s largest professional theater devoted to children and families is throwing open its doors to young families and longtime fans for the company’s 20th Birthday Bash on Saturday, February 28.

The day begins with two performances of A Piece of Cake!, an immersive sensory theater experience for the very young, ages 1-6, at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Helping Chicago Children’s Theatre’s bake a birthday cake should be easy, right? Chicago’s very youngest live theatergoers will find out in this fun and immersive experience. Little ones will experience live theater in an all-new way by interacting with the story through touch, sound, music and movement. Using just their imaginations and all eight senses, parents and their little ones will help with every step of making a cake.

Tickets to this one-of-a-kind, multisensory experience are just $10. Space is limited. Book yours today at chicagochildrenstheatre.org or by calling CCT Guest Services at (312) 374-8835.

After the morning’s performances, let’s get this party started! Mark your calendar for Chicago Children’s Theatre’s 20th Birthday Bash, an all-ages party from 1 to 3 p.m featuring interactive art, music and dramatic play activities that engage all eight senses. This event is free with an RSVP. Here’s what to expect:

  • A music room with professional beat boxer Yuri Lane
  • An art room with a fun, sensory craft-making activity
  • A sensory dramatic play room led by Chicago Children’s Theatre’s Director of Education and Access, Sam Mauceri
  • An interactive craft activity featuring and inspired by the designs for CCT’s upcoming 20th anniversary season finale, Goodnight Moon. Get a sense for how CCT plans to place bunny and his fellow characters “in the house” in this all-new, immersive production, staged by acclaimed Chicago director Mikael Burke.
