4th of July DIY T-Shirts

By Sara Horst, Harrisonburg Macaroni Kid June 27, 2012

Have your kids whip up these t-shirts for the whole family to wear to your 4th of July celebrations!

 Materials:

  • White t-shirts
  • newspaper
  • red and/or blue fabric paint
  • corrugated cardboard cut into star shapes (I made two different sizes)
  • small paint brush

Directions:

  1. Spread out t-shirt on table.
  2. Lay newspapers on the inside of the t-shirt to prevent the paint from bleeding through.
  3. Use a paint brush or q-tip to brush the paint onto your corrugated cardboard stars (just the ridges).
  4. Press the stars onto the t-shirt.
  5. Continue add stars to your t-shirt by repainting the cardboard.

Variations:

Cut stars out of kitchen sponges, squirt some blue or red paint onto a paper plate, dip the sponges into the paint and stamp the t-shirt. This might be easier for younger children.

Use either of the these methods with white paint on a red or blue t-shirt.
