Children Helping Sandy Hook Students

By Lisa Agresta, Editor, Macaroni Kid Newtown-Monroe-Trumbull-Easton

Just like adults, children who commiserate with the happenings at Sandy Hook Elementary may feel compelled to do something, to take action and help.

Preparations are underway for the welcoming of the Sandy Hook students back to school in a vacant school offered by a neighboring town.  To help and comfort the students, the Newtown Parent Teacher Association has suggested a number of ways noted below in which our children can get involved in making the Sandy Hook Elementary children’s return to school a little brighter.

As you work on these projects together, your children may have questions about the tragedy.  The National Association of School Psychologists offers advice on how to talk to your children as well as many other online resources for parents.

Snowflakes for Sandy Hook

“Let’s Give Sandy Hook School a Winter Wonderland” by making snowflakes, which will adorn the halls at their new school.  Snowflakes, like each of us are beautiful and no two are exactly alike, so let’s get creative and be colorful.

Please make and send Snowflakes for Sandy Hook by January 12, 2013 to:
