Supporting Sandy Hook Elementary of Newtown

By By Lisa Agresta, Editor, Macaroni Kid Newtown-Monroe-Trumbull-Easton December 25, 2012

It is with a heavy heart that I ask the help of our wonderful Macaroni Kid community to support the families, and especially the children, of Sandy Hook Elementary School.  I am Lisa Agresta, Publisher of Macaroni Kid Newtown, CT, and a mother of three young children here in Newtown.  The senseless tragedy of Friday, December 14, 2012, for which no words or rational can ever explain, has devastated our community with great sadness.  As we move forward, the sadness is slowly being comforted by unbelievable love and kindness from within the community and beyond – from all corners of the world.  Through this support, I am hopeful that Newtown will heal from the hurt we share with the world.  As you find yourself holding your children closer, please embrace them a little longer for the lost tomorrows of all the beautiful angels and heroes of Sandy Hook Elementary and their families.

Donate to Sandy Hook

As the horrific enormity of that day unfolded, we were all eager to somehow fix things, to make it all right again.  We felt compelled to reach out and help in any way possible.  Many continue to show their support through unselfish offerings and expressions of love, most evident by the heartwarming memorials created and visited by countless people each day and night here in Newtown.  Others have established donation support funds to help with both immediate and long-term needs of our Sandy Hook families and community members.

Two of those include the Sandy Hook School Support Fund through the United Way and the Connecticut PTSA Sandy Hook Fund, sponsored by the Newtown Parent Teacher Association.  I have talked personally to representatives of both these funds and have confirmed their genuine commitment that 100% of donations, large or small, will go directly to rebuilding the community.  If you choose to donate elsewhere, please be very cautious to ensure their authenticity.

Thank you in advance for the outpouring of love and support.
