Getting Organized ~ Desk & Paper Clutter

Recycle empty cereal boxes to make a paper sorter

By Anna Hall, Hickory, NC Publisher Mom January 17, 2013

I came across this project a little while ago and it's perfect for helping me get organized in the new year. It's a quick craft that requires basic materials and I love being able to repurpose something I'd otherwise throw away (ok, recycle). We go through a lot of cereal in our house and I have enough boxes to make a few of these, experimenting with different designs. Below are instructions for making a simple mail sorter, like an in/out box, but you can cut the boxes to different heights to make an upright sorter as well.

Materials needed:

  • 2-3 cereal boxes (I used 3)
  • scissors
  • glue
  • decorative paper
  • clear tape
  • decorative duct tape or ribbon
What to do:

1. Glue the fronts of cereal boxes together and allow to dry. I like to use clothes pins to hold the boxes in place as they dry. Cut off top flaps of the boxes.

2. Cover the outside with decorative paper of your choice.

3. I used decorative duck tape to cover up the edges.  You can fold in extra paper around the edges or use other paper or ribbon instead.

Have fun decorating and organizing!
