Mac Kid Review: Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells

December 8, 2016
Based on the best-selling book series by Barbara Park, this critically-acclaimed Emerald City Theatre revival explores the challenges of giving selflessly through humor and holiday joy as fan-favorite Junie B. Jones journeys through a Columbus Day school play, a holiday sing-along concert, and Secret Santa Day. “Dear Santa, I really hope you were watching me just now. That’s all I hope. Love, Junie B. –Giver.”

My family and I were in the audience for Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells last weekend and we had a blast! From the colorful set and bright costumes to the cleverly staged production, Emerald City has created a show that kids (and parents!) can't take their eyes off of.

Each performer did a nice job portraying their character, but we especially loved Junie B. Jones! Played by Elizabeth Stenholt, Junie B. (can't forget the B!) is a high energy, highly inquisitive, spunky, sometimes naughty, but trying to be nice little girl. My Mac Kid laughed and laughed at her antics! And now he wants to read all of the Junie B. Jones books! Yea for theatre and yea for books!

Besides being a fun show, Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells is very timely as it helps reminds our little ones about the importance of giving during this time of year. Add this show to your list of holiday activities!

Junie B. Jones in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells is perfect for kids 4 - 10 and runs now through January 8 at the Apollo Theatre, 2540 North Lincoln Avenue.

Tickets start at $19 and can be purchased online or through the Apollo Theater box office at 773.935.6100.

Disclosure: I was given tickets to the show to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
