Spirit Riding Free is a HIT!

Mac Kid Review

Put 15 kids in a room together and what's the first word you think of?

LOUD!

Unless you can find something that engages all of them - boys, girls, different interests and all. Well, Netflix and Dreamworks have done just that with the new original series DreamWorks Spirit Riding Free, which premiered on Netflix Friday, May 5, 2017.

We invited some buddies over for a sneak peak of the show at the end of April. As everyone gathered at our house, we enjoyed some horse-themed snacks (carrots, anyone?) and playtime. As the crowd grew along with the noise level, I worried we'd never get everyone settled down for a show or two.

I was wrong! From the moment the show started, our audience was completely engaged. We had a very diverse group - boys and girls, toddlers to older elementary, kids who watch a lot of TV, kids who don't, super active kids, readers - you name it, we had it. But they ALL loved this show! But don't take it from me. Check out these cuties who couldn't wait to see more.

DreamWorks Spirit Riding Free follows three friends, who together experience coming of age and the power of friendship. Lucky, a gutsy 12-year-old girl, befriends a wild mustang she names Spirit. With her two best friends, Abigail and Pru, and their horses by her side, they explore a world filled with endless rides and never ending fun. Together they’ll push their own limits and discover what it truly means to be free.

Along with great messages about friendship and self-empowerment, I love how relatable the characters are. One of our guests was especially inspired and I got this message and photo after the party was over!

"Tell DreamWorks that our Latina-American daughter was super excited for a heroine that looks like her with brown hair and hazel eyes and mixed-culture background! Can't wait to watch more of the show!"

DreamWorks Spirit Riding Free was definitely a hit with our crowd and my Mac Kid was anxiously awaiting May 5 so he could watch more episodes on Netflix!
