Escape the Everyday at Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede

The perfect getaway experience for families to make memories and share special occasions

As a parent, there is nothing better than escaping from the everyday stress and daily grind of life. Sometimes, it is hard to find time to laugh and enjoy pure fun with your family, but we were able to discover an exciting (and magical) adventure that is only a car ride away. A destination that makes you forget about the cares of the world and gives you a bit of family magic; that place is Dixie Stampede in Branson, Missouri.

And magic was just what we saw during a recent visit. Once we reached Dixie Stampede, the thrills began immediately as we walked toward the edge of the building and saw the Horse Walk. During this walk to the main entrance, guests meet the real stars of Dixie Stampede in their stables and learn tidbits of information about all the horses that take part in the show. For example, we met Trouble (our personal favorite) and discovered he can actually untie knots - they have to make sure he has a double knot secured because he can be somewhat mischievous!

At the main entrance, we were greeted with the sights and sounds of a gorgeous plantation, complete with personal touches from Dolly herself. After having a family portrait taken (they were gorgeous by the way), we were led into the multi-level Carriage Room for the pre-show. Our kids quenched their thirst with a delicious beverage in a souvenir boot mug. We were delighted to see the extensive drink menu which was all non-alcoholic. The kids selected the Rebel Yell and Orange Blossom
which were absolutely delicious! Our family also enjoyed a live music set from The White River Wranglers. They played a little bit of everything including country, bluegrass, and even that popular song from the Trolls movie which made my kids get up and dance.

In no time at all, the dinner bell rang. I started to feel butterflies in my stomach as we entered through the doors and took in the full immensity of the 35,000 square foot arena for the first time. It was pure, breathtaking magic! Getting seated was quick and easy as the entire staff was helpful and friendly. They were attentive to our needs from the start.

When the show officially began, I kept hearing “wow” and “look at that” while my kids pointed to everything they could possibly see. Actually, this part lasted throughout the entire show, but it never got old watching my girls squeal with curiosity and delight. Our first jaw dropping moment came at the far end of the arena where we saw a state-of-the-art 150 foot LED wall that projected some of the most gorgeous images I’ve ever seen.

Once the show began, our family got to celebrate the true meaning of the American journey and spirit. Dixie Stampede set up a friendly competition between the North and the South (we were on the North) which kept all the guests interacting, cheering, and stomping their feet. We watched magnificent horses, trick-riders, a breathtaking stampede of buffalo, lumberjack relay, and lots of animal experiences with chickens, pigs, and even dogs! Yes, my girls were so surprised to watch dogs called the Canine Capers relay race, exclusive to Dixie Stampede in Branson. The most adorable pups, all rescue dogs, came out to delight the audience with stunts and tricks.

While my kids were immersed in the show, there was another “star” right in front of us. That star was a mouth-watering feast included as part of the ticket admission to the show. Every person received a four-course dinner which was choreographed to the show. No silverware was provided as they encouraged you to eat with the best utensils you have...your hands. I can still smell the creamy soup, an entire rotisserie chicken, barbeque pork loin, corn on the cob, potato, homemade biscuit and scrumptious dessert. We always had full drinks and plenty of food to enjoy. They even had vegetarian and gluten free options as well - a gentleman next to us was enjoying his gluten free meal and said it was the best he’d ever had outside of his home. They do offer to-go bags in case you can’t clean your plate.

The show’s patriotic finale gave me chills when audience members stood up and brushed away tears from their eyes during a magnificent musical tribute. The tears from my family came from my girls who didn’t want the fun to end! I have to admit, the Dixie Stampede made me feel like I was in a completely different world for a few hours. It was so thrilling to feel like I could really escape into a magical environment and forget the reality of the outside world. I didn’t want to leave either. No wonder Dolly herself calls it “the most fun place to eat in Branson!”
