Have a Family Movie Night with Spiderman: Homecoming

By Sara Youngblood-Ochoa, Macaroni Kid Chicago Midtown March 18, 2018

Family movie nights are a big deal at our house. Everyone cuddled up on the couch in our jammies sharing a big bowl of popcorn - we love it! And we especially love it when we have a new movie to check out! I was recently sent Spiderman: Homecoming to review and my Mac Kid couldn't wait to add it to our movie night rotation.

In this telling of the Spiderman story, Peter Parker is just a teenager trying to fit in, impress the older girl at school and oh yeah, fight off a villain! My Mac Kid loved all of the action and humor in the story. I loved seeing some of my 80s faves onscreen - Robert Downey Jr. is there as Tony Stark and Michael Keaton (my personal favorite Batman) is the resident bad guy!

While there is some violence in this movie, none of it was overtly scary or gory and I felt comfortable having my son watch the movie. There is also some language, but my son has a firm understanding of what "grown-up" words are so those didn't phase him too much.

I really like the positive messages that this movie sent. As all Spiderman stories do, the theme of "With great power comes great responsibility" drives much of the movie. There's also a strong message about being there for your friends and family.

Since watching the movie, my Mac Kid has talked about it several times and has had Spiderman to his rotating cast of characters when he plays. I know Spiderman: Homecoming will be making another appearance at a family movie night soon!

Spiderman: Homecoming is rated PG-13 and is available at the Walmart at 4650 W North Ave in Chicago.

Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of this movie to facilitate my review, but all opinions are my own.
