Cozy Up for Cool Weather with OshKosh B'gosh

Everything a Chicago Kid Needs for Fall & Winter

By Sara Yaniga, Macaroni kid October 25, 2018

Before Chicago, our family lived in South Florida and my knowledge of Chicago weather was pretty limited and mostly to the good weather seasons of Summer and early Fall.  When we decided to claim the Windy City as home I reached out to every Chicagoan I knew and asked the same question, "What do we NEED to have for cold weather in Chicago?".  The simple fact was that despite growing up in the Midwest it had been over a decade since living in a place with four true seasons and I had never been responsible for dressing children for cold weather on a regular basis.

The responses I got from friends were all along the same lines and can be boiled down to these key points:

  • Cozy & Soft - cold wind and high-rise heaters can be brutal on the skin.  Make sure the clothes are soft for the most sensitive of skins.
  • Versatile - get things that can be easily mixed and matched with each other and be worn across multiple seasons.  We can have cool Summer nights and unseasonably warm Fall & Winter days
  • Comfortable - city kids are no strangers to walking, or riding scooters, around town and we play outside even on cold days.  Clothes should allow for running, stretching and being moving balls of energy
  • Cute - kids still want to wear the styles that are on trend and fun (Can you say unicorns and flip sequins?!)

Recently Macaroni Kid Chicago (Midtown) was invited to host a VIP Mom's Morning Out event and discovered OshKosh B'gosh has clothing that checks off all of my friends' recommendations and more!  It was a fun morning for moms (and kids) with goodies for all invited - including a cute shopping tote, special 25% coupon and a $50 Donor's Choose gift card to be used to support a project of your choice

My winter wardrobe recommendations include:

  • Fleece, for the upper body and definitely for the legs!  Kids don't usually like to wear long coats and fleece pants can help protect them from the cold
  • Long Sleeve shirts, which are perfect for layering and will get used well beyond winter
  • Hoodies are another key layering element and the hoods will help protect their little ears from the wind that can whip through the city
  • 4-in-1 Jackets from OshKosh have an outer shell and cozy inner (reversible!) lining which can be worn separately or zipped together for the ultimate winter coat.
  • Footwear for the rainy, snowy weather that is cute, cozy and priced right for growing feet.

Didn't get to join us this past Saturday?  No worries - I have included a special coupon just for you to use at your local OshKosh B'gosh store or online.  So go ahead and stock up on all things cozy for your own kids!
