One of my favorite games as a child was flashlight tag. When the days became shorter and the weather was still pleasant we would get the kids in the neighborhood together and run around playing until our parents called us back in for bedtime. Shadows in the Forest brings the classic childhood game inside for Family Game Night.

My seven-year-old was begging to play the minute he saw we had a new game to play, but I was hesitant and suggested he wait before opening the box and trying to set it all up. it's a 3D game board, so I knew that some set up was going to be needed to create the trees and rocks. Finally, dinner was over and the dishes cleaned up, so I gave him the go-ahead to start setting up the game. I felt a little foolish as I watched my child quickly pop the cardboard pieces out of their templates and slide the pieces together to make the trees and rocks. I set the forest in place on the game board while my son read the simple directions for playing the game.
One player is the "Seeker" and the other player(s) are the "Shadowlings" - tiny troll-like creatures who hide from the Seeker's lantern light in the shadows of the forest. The Seeker's goal is to catch the Shadowlings in the glowing lantern light and cause them to freeze in place by removing their special masks. The Shadowlings try hard to move among the dark forest and all meet together in the same shadow. Oh and the best part of this game is that you get to play it in dark!

Shadows in the Forest offers more than just fun though. Players of all ages will get to learn (Shh! Don't let the kids know) about teamwork, strategy, and properties of light and dark. It is a great game for only two players, but we found it more fun when we had four to six players.
