The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical

January 8 - 13th at the Oriental Theatre

"Please, I need your help in finding a stretch book for him to read because I won't survive another conversation about baseball, magic treehouses  or Pokemon!"

This was my plea to our son's teacher during our fall conference and the very next afternoon a rather large book was placed in my hands.

I knew very little about Percy Jackson & The Olympians, other than it was a very popular book, had been made into a movie and was kept in the one section of the Children's Library I had never entered before, the Young Adult section.  It felt too big and too adult (and maybe a teeny bit scary) for my seven-year-old, but he wanted to read it so badly and I agreed as long as I could read it too so we could talk about it together.  He would read after school and I would do my reading after everyone was tucked into bed for the night.  We were both hooked by the time the first chapter ended and now here we are reading our way through the entire five-book series.

Just as I was starting to get a little down about soon ending our journey with Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, we saw an advertisement for a new show coming to Chicago in 2019.  "The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical" opens January 8th at the Oriental Theatre and we can't wait to see it!  I have heard that the musical and book follow each other closely and some have described it as "a winning adaptation" (Hollywood Reporter), "electrifying" (Newsday) and "worthy of the gods" (Time Out NY)
