MLK Day

By Sara Yaniga, Macaroni Kid Chicago (Midtown) January 17, 2019

When school is out Macaroni Kid Chicago has the scoop on the fun around Chicago!  Here are some of our favorite options for a fun day off from school -

  1. Celebrate and explore the life of Dr. King at one of the events happening around Chicago!  DuSable Museum of African-American History, Chicago History Museum, Hyde Park Art Center and Art Institute Chicago all have special events planned for Monday.
  2. MLK Day is also known as a day of service to others and the city offers many opportunities to lend a helping hand.  If you would like to find a project for your family to share you can look at the Corporation for National & Community Service site to find the right organization near you, or check these projects.
  3. High energy kids?  Trying to avoid too much tv and sitting around? There are several day camps, classes & events to keep the kids moving & grooving!  Play2BeFit, West Loop Soccer Club, enerGEEwhiz, Elite Baseball Training, Windy City Ninja and Altitude Chicago are just a few of the options for active fun.
  4. Teach your children about "civic engagement" by attending the March for Unity on Saturday, January 19th.  Student organizers have created an event to bring together people to promote unity and inclusivity in Chicago.  The rally begins at Federal Plaza (219 S. Dearborn) at 11 am.
  5. Visit on of the many museums offering FREE admission on Monday!
