Trust & Will: A Simple Way to Plan for Their Future

Product Review

Every year for the last 8 years my friend has the same conversation with me.  She starts with the same question:

“Have you guys completed your Will yet?”

And I respond with the same answer:

“No, not yet…and I know we really should.”

Then she would remind me that as the godmother of our kids she needs to know what our wishes are for the kids if anything should happen to us and the only way to make sure that they are carried out is to put them in a legal document.  She wasn’t telling me anything I didn’t know, but for whatever reason we just hadn’t created one yet.

There are a handful of reasons I can think of why people don’t complete a Will or Trust:

  • People feel they just don’t need a Will
  • You don’t want to share personal, private details face to face with a stranger
  • You don’t have the money for a lawyer
  • You don’t want to think about the BIG stuff

The reality is that if you have kids, are married or own property you should legally protect those things with a Will or Trust.

Recently I was given the opportunity to use the online service, Trust & Will, to FINALLY complete a Will for our family.  To get our wishes and plans set in place and legally protected.  There is no awkward experience of getting into personal information with a stranger (and having to hand over a few hundred dollars to do so!)   The entire site was created and approved by attorneys and the process was incredibly simple, quick and thorough.

Once you determine which product you need (Trust, Will or Guardianship Documents) you create your login information you are prompted with clear and concise questions to guide you through each section.  Less than fifteen minutes later I had the majority of our Will completed, but since my husband was traveling for work and our lives have changed since we last had the BIG topic conversations, it was easy to put the document on pause until we could put thought and consideration into our answers.

I didn’t have to look at the calendar to coordinate time for my husband and I to meet with a lawyer.  I didn’t have to hire a baby-sitter to watch our kids for the meeting to happen.  I didn’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get our plans finalized.

If you aren’t sure which legal product you need, don’t worry, the site clearly describes their three different products and even offers a quick quiz to help you determine the best one for you.  Trust & Will also offers these state specific legal documents for a fraction of the cost of an in-person meeting with a lawyer.

For anyone who has been putting off preparing their own Will then I urge you to check out Trust & Will tonight after you tuck the kids in bed.  It’s a simple way to get peace of mind and if you use code 'adulting' you will get $10 off any Estate Plan from Trust & Will!
