16th Annual Move for Kids, benefitting Lurie Children's Hospital

April 27, 2020

Given today’s rapidly changing environment, and to keep in-line with social distancing directives, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago today announced its 16th Annual Move for Kids, presented by Hub Group, will be shifted to a virtual event format for the first time. Still set to take place on Sunday, May 17, the annual event will feature all-new digital initiatives and engagement opportunities that supporters will be able to partake in from their homes, all with the event’s ultimate message in mind: It takes the whole community, moving in the same direction, to provide a healthier future for every child.

“Community is more important now than ever before,” said Jessica Brooks, Move for Kids event coordinator at Lurie Children’s. “We look forward to bringing our amazing Chicago-area community the stories, activities, and energy, albeit in a new way, that our participants have come to love and appreciate since the event’s inception almost 20 years ago.”

The cherished event will be full of engaging and inspiring content via the Lurie Children’s social channels, including live stream-platform remarks from the hospital’s leadership as well as this year’s Move for Kids patient champion, 15-year-old, Alexis who has been a patient at Lurie Children’s since 2007 and suffers from Waardenburg Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that results in hearing loss and changes in the coloring of the hair, skin, and eyes, among other conditions. Other content over the course of the weekend will include a fitness challenge, Move Where You Are challenge, and a virtual movie night.

Event participants will be encouraged to share photos of themselves on social media during the weeks leading up to May 17, as well as on the day, showcasing their support for Lurie Children’s. When sharing, participants are encouraged to tag Lurie Children’s (@LurieChildrens) and include event-specific hashtags including #Move4Kids and #All4Your1.

This year, Move for Kids is supporting the Lurie Children’s newly-established COVID-19 Support Fund, which aims to support the hospital’s greatest needs as a result of the pandemic. Lurie Children’s has moved swiftly to ensure that children have access to the healthcare they deserve, that our workforce remains safe and healthy and that we work with partners to secure the supplies required to deliver exceptional care to the children and families we serve. Gifts to the COVID-19 Support Fund will allow us to direct resources where they are most needed during this challenging time.

There’s still time to join the movement and create a team ready to exercise, fundraise, and celebrate virtually with loved ones for a great cause. The full schedule of events will be available on the Move for Kids event page. For more information visit, http://luriechildrens.org/moveforkids
