"Where should we stay?"
It's a question I get asked multiple times a year when friends and family are planning a visit to Chicago. It's not always an easy question to answer as there are multiple variables to consider when looking at hotels or furnished rentals. Is the stay for business or fun? Is it an adults only trip, or will the whole family be coming along? Is it a short stay or a longer visit? These are some of the questions I ask so I can make the best suggestion - or rather these are the questions I USED to ask so I could make the best suggestion. The newly opened The Neighborhood Hotel in Chicago's iconic Lincoln Park neighborhood is great no matter what your reason is for a visit to Chicago! This property offers guests accommodations that are well-designed suites with amenities perfectly suited for both work and play in the heart of one of Chicago's most beloved neighborhoods. In fact, The Neighborhood Hotel is what our traveling family would call a "unicorn property" - one that can offer everything a family would need even when one parent has to get some work done too.
With its first location in the heart of Chicago’s Lincoln Park, The Neighboorhood Hotel transformed one of the city’s classic walk-ups into a residential-style hotel with 14 suites. Each unit features a kitchen stocked with local favorites and boasts fun details, from the millennial pink pegboards created by 1840 Creative down to the brightly colored MoccaMaster coffee makers. There is a well-curated collection of books, art and accessories that reflect the neighborhood's current vibe and storied history, as well as a field guide, complete with suggested and locally-vetted activities that can be found just outside the hotel’s doorstep.
For guests, the team at The Neighborhood Hotel is their main source of information and inspiration. The team is comprised of locals so each recommendation or answer to a question comes from someone who lives and loves where guests just stay. Not sure where to take your partner for dinner or kids for activities? Need a workout plan or a quick route to your meeting? They’ve got you covered. Need gear like a yoga mat or cooler, a bike or a sled? They’ve got that, too.
Shortly after checking in you will realize that this unique property will give you the feel of coming home at the end of a long day of work or play around the Windy City. My kids loved the spaciousness of the suites and noticed the important things like pancake mix in the kitchen, games like Bananagrams to play and the best - BUNK BEDS! A suite at The Neighborhood Hotel has the details covered (hello laundry!) and even some of the things you don't even think of until you need them.
The Neighborhood Hotel partnered with Rebel House Designs to transform the 1893 property. Known to surprise, delight and inspire, Rebel House unveiled a beautiful collision of new and old, preserving the vintage details while creating a home base that is light and clean with accents that bring just the right amount of pop, and, of course, all the 21st century conveniences travelers have come to expect. While the original bannister staircase still greets guests and channels the walk-up charm, it is juxtaposed by a contemporary art collection with nods to Chicago city scenes and nostalgic memorabilia, including a collection from The Heirloomist. The overall vibe is fresh and fun with accommodations and amenities to support everyone, from the homebody who needs to recharge to the adventurer ready to explore.
As part of the renovation, The Neighborhood team also invested in infrastructure improvements that result in a better guest experience, from tech-based and mobile-powered security systems and key access to ongoing communications, in-unit tech offerings (Smart TVs, Sonos, YouTubeTV and enhanced Wi-Fi) and much more.
About The Neighborhood Hotel: The Neighborhood Hotel is owned and operated by Experiential Capital Group (ECG), who believes the lines are blending between real estate asset types, demanding more dynamic and relevant user experiences, like The Neighborhood. Founder Jonathan Gordon, a travel enthusiast, was inspired to create the new hotel brand from his business travels. Spending weeks in convention centers or business districts and their nearby hotels and restaurants, he missed the essence of the city he was in and craved more authentic travel experiences - discovering neighborhood coffee shops, unearthing local running paths and so much more, even if it meant he was further from his meetings. With The Neighborhood Hotel, the property appeals to both business and leisure travelers who are looking to truly understand what makes their destination unique. When you stay at The Neighborhood Hotel, you are part of the community and have a place to call home.
The Neighborhood Hotel considers each property and detail through the lens of various travelers, from the business traveler to the curious family to the romantic couple, and from the urban streets of Chicago to the wooded splendor of Southwest Michigan. Their Lincoln Park location is just the start, with a second location in Grand Beach, Michigan slated to open in Fall 2021.
