Magic is afoot at Symphony Center

Music meets magic at Once Upon a Symphony

By Sara Yaniga with Chicago Symphony Orchestra February 18, 2023

Produced and presented in partnership with Chicago Children’s Theatre, Once Upon a Symphony: The Elves and the Shoemaker tells the story of a poor shoemaker and his wife who have only enough leather to make one last pair of shoes. While the shoemaker sleeps, someone fashions the most perfect pair of shoes imaginable — and a delighted customer pays twice the asking price. Discover who could have done such marvelous work and whether or not the magic will continue!

Once Upon a Symphony programs combine vibrant music played by CSO musicians, storytelling and enchanting visuals to create the perfect first concert experience for the young people in your life! The Elves and the Shoemaker explores how we all need help at times, and how our connections with one another are strengthened when we receive it.

CSO for Kids programs like this one are just one of the many ways for families to experience Symphony Center and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. For over a century, the CSO has presented programming that is designed specifically for children and their families or teachers.
