Description

Mark your calendar! There’s no school Monday, January 15, Martin Luther King Day, so Chicago Children’s Theatre is throwing open its doors from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a wonderful birthday party of its own. Not only is it MLK’s Birthday, but Chicago Children’s Theatre will also celebrate its first birthday in The Station. After a complete renovation, the former 12th District Police Station is now a beautiful community hub for creativity and theater in the heart of the West Loop.

Bring the kids for balloons, free birthday cake, cool crafts and a giant card to sign. Interact with puppets from My Wonderful Birthday Suit! Playwright and director Gloria Bond Clunie will be on hand to meet children and parents and to host interactive theater activities celebrating Martin Luther King’s birthday and the themes of acceptance he championed that form the core of Clunie’s new play for young audiences. Chicago author Michael Tyler, joined by illustrator David Lee Csisko, will read and sign copies of his children’s book, The Skin You Live In
