REVIEW: How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular

July 26, 2012
Tonight my family and I headed out to the United Center to the opening night performance of How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular. Using animatronic dragons, pyrotechnics, martial arts, cinematic projections and acrobatics, the Academy Award nominated animated movie was brought to life right before our eyes! 23 dragons (some with wingspans of up to 46 feet), Viking warriors and world-class circus artists and acrobats kept the audience mesmerized.

My family has not seen the movie before so the story was new to us.  I enjoyed the message that not everything is as it seems and if you treat someone (or a dragon!) with respect and love you might discover a true friend.

Technically the show is amazing.  Calling it a spectacular is right on the money as it truly was a spectacle.  Lights, fires, lasers, acrobatics and of course, animatronic dragons--there was so much to look at!  The dragons especially were awesome.  They were so lifelike and HUGE!

My son is only 3 and at times the roaring dragons and fire were a bit much for him.  However we were sitting in front of a family with a 6 and 7 year old and those kids loved every second of it, so if you've got kids a little older than mine (and up) I highly recommend How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular.

How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular is at the United Center through July 29.  Tickets start at $26.50 and may be purchased through Ticketmaster or by going to www.unitedcenter.com. Discount code "MOM" is available for 25% off select seats to weekday shows, including Friday night. Enter Code MOM in the "Promotions and Special Offers" Box via ticketmaster.com

Disclosure: I was given 3 tickets to facilitate this review, but as always, all opinions are my own.
